MUSIC, FOOD & FUN FOR THE BIGGEST DRUA GAME OF THE YEAR
Fijian Drua CEO Brian Thorburn is overwhelmed with the support from the public regarding the match between Fijian Drua and Chiefs.
The Super Rugby Pacific match, a first for the Sugar City, will be held at Churchill Park in Lautoka at 3pm, this Saturday.
“It’s really a tremendous support from the public and that support will grow and grow by Saturday itself,” he said.
By Monday, 50 percent of the stadium tickets have either been sold or allocated. Thorburn is encouraging people to purchase their tickets quickly before all the tickets are sold out.
“We trying to make some legacy improvements to the ground, the areas in which Churchill park can be improved.
“We are working closely with the Lautoka Town Council,” he said.
Thorburn also has thanked the Lautoka Town Council CEO Mohammed Anees Khan and his team who are upgrading Churchill park for the match.
“We have got a promenade of palms, we have got the dressing room repainted, and we have got a temporary ground stand coming up at the moment.
“We hope over time we will increase capacity well above what it currently stands as 11,000. We want to create a legacy for the future not only for ourselves but other sports that play here," he said.
Mr. Thorburn said they will ensure to place garbage bins everywhere so that the ground is clean when the game finishes.
“We have extra toilets, extra catering outlets and extra bars. There will be a real buzz at this ground on Saturday,” he said.
Fans coming to the match will also enjoy the sounds from the popular band – The Gang featuring Billy T and Ratu. The music group will perform hits like Taqanika, Marama, Saiva Ciwa, Yalayala and others pre-match, during halt-time and post-match.
