As heard exclusively on the Triple M network yesterday, Gold Coast will be the venue for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s Round 7 match against the Waratahs on 1st April and Round 15 match against the Chiefs on 27th May
Both games will be held at Cbus Super Stadium, the city’s premier sporting and entertainment venue. The news was announced yesterday on Triple M Breakfast with Flan, Ali and Spida.
Fijian Drua CEO Brian Thorburn explained why Gold Coast was the preferred venue for the Drua’s home Round 7 and Round 15 home matches: “There are a number of factors involved in our venue selection process. Our preference always is for a venue near a large Fijian diaspora or one where our fans can easily get to. Of course, the facilities have to suit our high performance, operational and broadcast needs. Cbus Super Stadium on the beautiful Gold Coast ticked all these boxes.”
We’re probably the only team in Super Rugby that’s on the road every week, and probably the only team that takes matches to where our fans are week in, week out.
He added: "We’re hoping that the Fijian, Pacific Islander and rugby loving communities of Southeast Queensland will come out in numbers to cheer on the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua. Our team will continue to make waves in this competition and a large part of that is due to the support we get from fans in the stands! Ticket prices start from just $12.50 and we have an amazing range of corporate hospitality packages available as well.”
Changes in Australia entry conditions means that fans in Fiji can also plan to attend remaining Drua home matches in Southeast Queensland and Sydney. A full list of Drua matches, as well as tickets and hospitality options for matches is available on the Club’s website.
